Teke Teke: Moonlit Dread is a free-to-play horror game where you find yourself in an unsettling situation during a late-night grocery run. This game from Med is based on the Japanese urban legend, the Teke Teke. 

The Teke Teke is known to be a vengeful spirit that haunts urban areas and train stations, much like the one found in Teke Teke: Moonlit Dread. This atmospheric game is a treat for Japanese horror enthusiasts, especially for those who enjoyed similar titles such as The Closing Shift | 閉店事件 and Aka Manto | 赤マント. 

Make it through the night

Teke Teke: Moonlit Dread takes place in a chilling setting that players believe to be connected to an eerie article they read before heading out on their late-night excursion. This haunting atmosphere is further driven by the use of VHS-like visuals reminiscent of classic PSX horror games. As you explore the darkness, you’ll find a number of terrifying surprises that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Although the gameplay doesn’t last more than 15 minutes, you’ll have the opportunity to uncover two very different endings. It’s up to you to figure out whether you would rather survive the night in this unusual convenience store or fall victim to the monster that lurks in the shadows. You’ll also need to collect a number of items along the way, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled. 

It’s important to note, though, that the shopping sequence in this horror game can be a great source of frustration for some players. Certain items can be difficult to spot, especially with some visual textures washing them out too much that they become indistinguishable from the other items. Thankfully, the game’s smooth and intuitive controls allow you to move around quickly enough to scour through the numerous items.

A haunting experience

Although Teke Teke: Moonlit Dread presents some visual issues that can make it difficult to properly see certain elements that will allow you to drive the story forward, the game’s engaging storyline and terrifying atmosphere easily make up for it. The survival element of the game also adds to the game’s appeal, especially when you’re aiming to uncover both of the game’s intriguing endings.
